Busy Weekend

We had a busy weekend to end the summer holidays. On Friday night, Connell and Fiacra went downtown to watch a bike race. They stayed until the end of the race so didn't get home until after 11pm.

We had rented a car for the weekend hoping to go to the beach on Saturday but the weather didn't really cooperate. Instead we drove the "Chateaux Route" through the Medoc wine region. We were amazed at how many wineries there are.

The grapes will be harvested soon

We stopped at Fort Medoc, a 17th century fort on the Gironde estuary, built as part of the defence of Bordeaux. We could see the Blaye Citadel across the estuary.

On Saturday evening, we were invited to our neighbours for L'Heure de L'Apero (aperitifs). Connell and I managed an entire social evening in French, and really enjoyed it (we were aided by the champagne I think). The kids had a great time playing with the two girls next door. We got home after 10:30, so another late night for Fiacra. He got up this morning at 10:30, he does not like to miss out on sleep.

Today we put the bikes on the bike rack and drove to La Teich. We have a book of hikes in this region that are good for kids, and I we thought it would be a good idea to bike rather than hike the recommended walk in La Teich. It was like an obstacle course in some parts but fun. We went to the pool on the way home for a swim. Fiacra thought we should also do a run so that we would do a complete triathlon but we were out of time.
